1. What are ‘phone seismometers’?

‘Phone seismometers’ may just have shown their true value. An app that turns your smartphone into a way to detect earthquakes has been downloaded over 200K times to date. Called MyShake, it was launched on Android in February this year. The app is sensitive enough to record even smaller earthquakes with a minor magnitude of 2.5. Read the piece here.

2. Tech-for-good – Giving a quadriplegic man the ability to drive

A specially modified car has given American Sam Schmidt the chance to drive. The former race car driver was left quadriplegic following a car accident, and now Arrow Electronics have worked with a Corvette to embed special technology that will allow Sam to actually control the car.
