Useful Windows features that you might not know about

We’re going to show you some pretty useful tools which are included in Windows that you probably didn’t know about.

Windows 10 is a great operating system with innovative characteristics which are worth trying out. When Windows 7 was launched it was also full of new stuff, and so was Windows 8.  Sadly, a lot of useful Windows features go completely unnoticed by most users. It’s not that they are hidden, but neither are they in plain sight.

GodMode

GodMode allows you to activate all Windows configurations in one place. When you enter GodMode on Windows you will be able to have direct access to over 240 configuration features across your operating system: keyboard, sound, Windows Defender, system, region, voice recognition, programmes, screens, personalisation, battery use and much more.

To activate GodMode go to your desktop and create a folder. Rename the folder as: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. Next, you just need to open the folder and start to change your computer’s configuration.

If you’re trying to explain to a friend or relative how to solve a problem on Windows but you’re not in the same place, this tool will no doubt be helpful. From Windows 7 onwards, Microsoft has included something called Problem Steps Recorder. It’s a long and pretty descriptive name, but almost no-one knows about it.

Windows 10 is a great operating system with innovative characteristics which are worth trying out.

This tool is not for recording your screen. What it does is create a step by step record by taking screen shots every time the user clicks on something. Also, the programme adds detailed instructions for the process without you having to do anything else. Once you’re finished, the recording can be saved in a zip file.

Reliability monitor

If you feel like your operating system has not been behaving lately and you are worried about its stability, you can use the Reliability Monitor. Windows is always monitoring all of the processes which you execute and this tool keeps a log of absolutely all errors so you can check when your computer had problems and why. This way you can identify if there is any software that is affecting your PC’s performance. To use it, just open the start menu, write the word reliability and click on the reliability history. You’ll have to wait a couple of minutes for it to generate the report.

Power efficiency diagnostics

If you have a laptop, the battery will be important for its performance. If it seems like your battery isn’t lasting very long, you can request a power efficiency diagnostics report. This will show all of the problems you have, which are usually easy to resolve with a couple of changes in the system set-up.

To request the report you need to open an elevated Command Prompt, which you do by writing command prompt in the start menu. It is important that you run it as an administrator (right click on Command Prompt, run as Administrator). Once open, write the following: powercfg –energy and wait about 60 seconds to see the system performance and generate a report. When it’s finished it will create a HTML file which will be in the path: C:\windows\system32. Open the report with any browser and start to see what you can do to make your laptop’s battery more efficient.
