SpainJS – THE event to be at

By the BlueVia team

We couldn’t miss the SpainJS event in Madrid – we have been waiting for months! Tons of developers across Europe attended this fantastic opportunity to meet professionals from the JavaScript developing world. It was a great event to sponsor and also a great chance to hear the innovations and techniques of the greatest people around the industry.

The surprise presentations of the year were Jeremy Ashkenas, the creator of CoffeeScript & Backbone.js; Alex MacCawRuby a Ruby/JavaScript developer and the creator of SpineJS. Also Vicent Mart, Intergalactic MC Systems engineer at GitHub and Karolina Szczur, a designer and front-end developer working at Nodejitsu joined the panel. The full list of rock stars can be found here:  http://spainjs.org/speakers.html

The best part is that we were among them! Guillermo López from Mozilla Hispano and Andrés Martínez from  BlueVia made a great job conquering 50 attendees. Our workshop took place on July 5th in the Sala Camon Madrid and we presented the Firefox OS project, also known internally as Boot2Gecko (B2G). The main idea is that “the web is the platform”, which means that, simply, using web technologies you would be able to do anything that can currently be done in a phone: calling, surfing the Internet, chatting with your friends, playing the latest games…etc.

To be successful in this area it is necessary to create a load of new stuff, mostly APIs that use physical material (hardware) that were previously not on the web. For example, vibration hardware, a making calls chip, the interaction with camera devices… It is a huge innovation environment and, the best of all, it is open for anybody to get around, give their point of view, their ideas and materialize it in one of the most interesting innovation projects for the web nowadays right now.
